Napoli v Chelsea: Andre Villas-Boas warned by Avram Grant that he could be sacked at any point
Former Chelsea manager Avram Grant has warned Andre Villas-Boas that any day could be his last amid ongoing speculation that club owner Roman Abramovich is losing patience with the Portuguese coach following a string of poor results.
Chelsea are currently fifth in the Premier League and 17 points behind leaders Manchester City, and while the pressure on Villas-Boas increases with every loss or draw, the former Porto manager has suggested that his job at Stamford Bridge will be safe provided he secures a Champions League place next season.
Chelsea are currently on course for their worst season since Abramovich bought the club and while victory over Napoli in the last-16 first-leg tomorrow night may ease the pressure on Villas-Boas, Grant has warned he could be dismissed at any moment.
“My advice to Andre [Villas-Boas] is to try and do his job and win games. What will happen will happen,” said Grant.
“In the old times, Roman [Abramovich] didn’t have much patience but now I think he’s learned something and is a little bit [more patient].
“I don’t know for how long though. It’s important for any manager to realise that any day could be your last.”
