Pep rejects Bridge reports
Barcelona boss rubbishes reports of Stamford Bridge switch
Pep Guardiola has rubbished rumours he will swap the kings of Europe for the King’s Road and the vacant Chelsea post.
Speculation linking the 41-year-old Barcelona boss to Stamford Bridge has been rife since bookmakers slashed the odds on him replacing Andre Villas-Boas, who got the boot on Sunday following a string of poor results.
Rumours have been fuelled by news that he has stalled on his latest deal at Camp Nou, putting him alongside former Blues boss Jose Mourinho and ex-Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez as favourites for the job.
But Guardiola, who only ever signs one-year deals and has enjoyed unparalleled success at the Spanish giants, laughed off suggestions he would be moving to West London.
Asked if there had been any contact, he said sarcastically: “I speak every day with Chelsea.
“Villas-Boas seems like a great coach. The time (managers get) depends on the results, not on our abilities.
“I’m not capable of judging the reasons for his dismissal.”
