Roberto Di Matteo set to be named Chelsea’s new permanent manager
Roberto D Matteo is set to be unveiled as Chelsea’s new permanent manager.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is ready to reward Di Matteo’s Champions League success, after struggling to convince top target Pep Guardiola to take the job this summer.
The Chelsea players will certainly welcome the decision on Di Matteo, who revitalised the club after Andre Villas-Boas’ disastrous reign.
And having lifted the FA Cup and European Cup, Abramovich has realised that appointing Di Matteo on a full-time basis is his only real option after former stars of the club called on him to make the right decision.
Speaking last month, Brighton manager Gus Poyet urged Abramovich to hand over the permanent reins to Di Matteo.
“It would be common sense that he will stay,” said the Uruguayan, who played alongside Di Matteo at Stamford Bridge.
