Chelsea’s Fernando Torres toils against Man City – Savage
In his regular BBC Sport column on football tactics, Robbie Savage takes a closer look at Chelsea striker Fernando Torres’ display in his side’s goalless draw with Manchester City.
I watched Torres earlier this season, and was impressed when his tireless work helped the Blues beat Arsenal.
Since then, however, he has scored only one league goal – against Norwich on 6 October – and he was left out by former Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo in what turned out to be the Italian’s last game in charge, Tuesday’s Champions League drubbing by Juventus.
Sunday’s game at Stamford Bridge was a big one for new Blues boss Rafael Benitez.
But it was also an important one for the 28-year-old Spanish striker, who still has much to do to live up to his £50m price tag.
