Let’s be Frank… Chelsea have every right to pension off Lampard
They are still talking about Frank Lampard’s display at Southampton last weekend. His football was unremarkable; he played for the last 25 minutes and scored Chelsea’s fifth goal with a penalty.
Yet what lingered in the memory was his post-match performance. By all accounts, it was a masterpiece.
At the final whistle, he took a slow walk to the end where the Chelsea supporters were congregated. He smiled, waved, clapped his hands above his head. Somebody flourished a banner which proclaimed him a ‘Legend’. Others sang his name over and over again.
