Chelsea players in training-ground row with Andre Villas-Boas as they look to pin blame on manager
Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas became involved in a heated row with some of his senior players, in front of owner Roman Abramovich, after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against Everton.
Villas-Boas was so incensed by Chelsea’s lacklustre performance that he called his players in on Sunday to the club’s training ground to dish out some home truths.
However, the Portuguese was not prepared for the players’ response, as the old guard gave as good as they got and laid into their manager, criticising his tactics and team selections and making it clear he is slowly losing the respect of the dressing room.
Abramovich, however, has the final say on all major decisions. His presence at the training ground last week was due to him having free time in his schedule – his High Court case with Boris Berezovsky has finally finished – but, unfortunately for Villas-Boas, it has coincided with the poor run of form with the disappointment of throwing away a 3-0 lead against Manchester United followed by the Everton defeat which the manager said was the worst performance of the season.
