Ref the previous post – the Telegraph article – I think we need to calm down a little. Di Matteo this, and Di Matteo that. Etc. I can’t fault his service for Chelsea, and the 46 second goal in ’97 was actually a fairly significant moment in Chelsea history for me and many more, but we need to step back and look at the performances.
We were more than mediocre at home yesterday against the shite from shite lane, and city were defo better than us during the week. We didn’t know how to ‘hang on’ in that game, and only had a couple of chances onm goal as I remember. With the exception of the napoli home game, where everyone was more than ‘up for it properly’, since the clueless Boas has gone we haven’t really played anyone yet – so let’s see how we get on against Benfica on Tuesday.
If we can get some sort of result over there, then do the business back here in the 2nds leg on 4th April, I reckon we can say things are a bit better than they were. Actually, that’s harsh, as they are obviously better – just ‘cos the clueless Boas has gone – but the team is now out of the first fortnight’s honeymoon period and we’ve lost at city and were lucky not to lose at home to a mediocre sp*rs side.
As far as I’m concerned the jury is out on Di Matteo as a manager. It’s not as though he has managerial pedigree – MK Dons and West Brom, ffs. Let us not forget he lost 11 of his last 12 games at West Brom before getting sacked (I am told). It’s nice he ‘started at the bottom’ so to speak, but he hasn’t managed anyone of note of actually achieved anything great as yet. Let me add, though, that I will be the first to congratulate him if we pull off the almost impossible and grab a 4th place spot, but at the moment I’m not getting carried away. Let us see what happens in Lisbon on Tuesday.
We’ll need a summer clearout of the core of the team, as well. Torres now has his chance, imo. And get Sturridge’s head out of his arse. I think with 3 or 4 core players we can be a force again. A proper force. At the moment we need players – and more than likely a manager.
Up the Chels’.
