Talking of Captains – Gerrard seems to be playing as though he’s 3 years younger now – another excellent cross in for the goal.
Rooney scored but he did fkk all else except lose the ball or miss a sitter. That header he missed probably knocked his confidence, too. The goal was an easy nod, but he was there to nod it home. Mind you, wouldn’t every nbr 9 be there to nod it home. Otherwise he was shit. Maybe now he’s got one under his belt he’ll play better against the eyeties.
Wellbeck did fkk all. Substituted too late (I would’ve had him off against the Swedes, too, but he then scored!). How would Carroll play with Rooney? I’d go that way against the eyeties.
Young finally appeared, after being quiet in the previous two games, and Parker would obviously die for the cause.
I’m still not happy with Milner, but not sure Walcott is a full game man at this level.
There were a couple of scary moments, including a sitter they missed from an offside position and the goal that wasn’t given. WTF those line judges are for, Lord only knows. That’s the first time I have seen there be an incident where one has had to make the decision he’s put there for and he got it wrong. Fkn useless. But what that did do, apart from not giving them an equaliser of course, is tell Blatter that the goal line technology is essential. With that very fact in mind I am glad the guy did get it wrong as had he given the goal Blatter would be nodding his head saying how fkn good his idea was. The wanker.
A decent performance against the Italians is required, and I don’t think they’ll be shitting themselves right now, though. I’d have Carroll up front and launch alot to him. Crap tactics but they won’t like his presence. Whether that would bring the best of Rooney I’m not so sure, but not everything will be launched to him. I wouldn’t start with Wellbeck again.
