John Terry may be charged by FA as David Bernstein prepares to defend racism work to MPs
David Bernstein will defend the Football Association’s work in tackling racism at the same time as the FA disciplinary department weighs up whether to charge John Terry.
Bernstein, the FA chairman, is to report to a committee of MPs on Tuesday in response to their long-running football governance inquiry report.
His appearance comes two working days after Westminster Magistrates’ Court acquitted Terry of racially abusing Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand last October.
The FA is still gathering and reviewing evidence on the Terry case before deciding whether to charge the Chelsea captain. It had previously launched an inquiry into the incident before police set up their investigation and took the case to court.
When that concluded with the verdict on Friday the FA announced it would reopen its own investigations, although sources say a charging decision is “not necessarily expected” on Tuesday.
One area of criticism of the FA in the Department of Culture, Media and Sport select committee’s inquiry report being discussed is the lack of inclusion within FA structures.
