Reading more on Sunday’s game, it gets quite frustrating. Rodgers could not have sent out a team to play like Chelsea on Sunday – and not just because he wouldn’t want to. He doesn’t have the players. Full stop.
Not a single member of Liverpool’s back four would get in Chelsea’s team and, with the possible exception of Jamie Carragher, it is hard to recall a Liverpool player who has regularly hit Chelsea’s defensive standard in 10 years.
Rodgers genuinely could not have played a defensive game if he had wanted to, despite claiming “it’s easy” and “anyone can play like that”. That strike force have got them their league psoition. Jose played with a 2nd eleven on Sunday and picked them all for their strengths in the positions given. They all did the job as they were required to. It worked well, and there were no answers from the scousers other than long range strikes hoping for deflections.
Then Chelsea get the blame ‘cos the scousers didn’t win.
Now it’s sunk in, and Rodgers has had time to look at it, he can see that it was an excellent footballing display. We don’t have a recognised striker. What did everyone expect? That we start high up the pitch like Pep did last night? ffs.
Anyway, we’ll see how it all works this evening. If they get a goal then we need two. Now that is a tall order. Fingers crossed for a clean sheet.
Win or lose, up the Blues.
